A boxed set of the Daybooks has been acquired by the Minneapolis Institute of Arts for its permanent collection.
Created between 2000 and 2010, each of the eight Daybooks is named after the rich color of its cover, The Blue, The Green, The Orange, etc. The collages are made from a vast array of everyday material ranging from newspapers, photographs, and drawings to wasp's nests, pencil shavings, and shirt pockets. The endless combinations of text and imagery reflect on age-old themes: art, sport, food, nature, travel, love, war, home, family. The Daybooks are funny, poetic, beautiful, and surprising. They are a lot like life, one moment lyrical, the next moment strange.
Each Daybook also exists as a fifteen-foot long scroll printed on Japanese paper.
Robert Carolina is an itinerant artist and writer. An unfounded rumor has it that he and David Coggins walk the same dog.
